CITY INTRODUCTION

Brisbane

Brisbane is the capital of and the most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland, and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of over 2.5 million, and the South East Queensland metropolitan region, centred on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3.6 million. The Brisbane central business district stands on the historic European settlement and is situated inside a peninsula of the Brisbane River, it is a high-speed development city, which has a great influence in the world.

Brisbane River

The Brisbane River winds through downtown Brisbane and flows into the Pacific Ocean 15 kilometers away. Due to its blue water, Brisbane is also known as the city of the river. The Brisbane river, like a bright ribbon, floats slowly down the mountains and skylines, which is also called as the Water Park of Brisbane.

The South Bank Parklands

The South Bank Parklands are located on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, at South Bank, directly opposite the City. The parklands are connected to the City by the Victoria Bridge at the northern end, and to Gardens Point by the Goodwill Bridge at the southern end.The parklands consist of a mixture of rainforest, water, grassed areas and plazas as well as features such as the riverfront promenade, the Streets Beach, the Grand Arbour, the Courier Mail Piazza, the Nepal Peace Pagoda, the Wheel of Brisbane, restaurants, shops and fountains, which is a good recommendation for experiencing the local customs.

Brisbane City Hall

Built in 1930, it is the most magnificent government building in the state of Queensland and is made of the unique brown and yellow sandstone. Now it is open for tours, and the tallest building is the clock tower, which rings every 15 minutes to remind Australians  to value time and not waste it. To learn more about Brisbane's urban history, you could visit the history museum on the third floor of the city hall.

Mt Coot-tha Reserve

Mount Coot-tha is 287 metres above sea level, has the highest peak within the urban footprint of Brisbane. It forms the eastern extent of the Taylor Range and is a prominent landmark approximately six kilometres to the west of the Brisbane central business district. Visible from much of the city, Mount Coot-tha is a popular bushland tourist destination including the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, as well as a mountain drive, bike trails, parks including a waterfall, and television and radio towers.

Springbrook National Park

The Springbrook National Park is a protected national park that is located in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland. The 6,197-hectare park is situated on the McPherson Range, near Springbrook, approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane. The park is consist of three sections which are Mount Cougal section, Natural Bridge section, Springbrook Plateau section. And it is famous for a colony of glow worms. The ‘light’ you see in the cave is produced within the glow-worm's body.

Kangaroo Point

This is not a place to look at kangaroos. In fact, there aren't any kangaroos. It is said that the Kangaroo Point is located in a rounded corner area that resembles a kangaroo's bulging belly, hence the name. But Kangaroo Point is one of the best locations in Brisbane. Kangaroo Point is a popular recreation spot, conveniently close to the city and the South Bank Parklands. The Kangaroo Point Cliffs, situated on the east bank of the city bend of the Brisbane River north of the Maritime Museum, opposite Riverstage and the Queensland University of Technology at Gardens Point.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Founded in 1927, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is Australia's first koala reserve and one of the world's top 10 zoos. In addition to the cute koalas, there are kangaroos, Australian wild dogs, owls and other animals unique to Australia for viewing.

Queensland Art Gallery

The Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) is an art museum located in the South Bank precinct of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The gallery is part of the Queensland Cultural Centre. It complements the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) building, situated only 150 metres away. The Queensland Art Gallery is owned and operated by the Government of Queensland, which created the institution in 1895 as the Queensland National Art Gallery. The Queensland Art Gallery is a 4700 square metre display space broken down with walls and barriers that interchange between the art world and the public.

Story Bridge

The Story Bridge is a heritage-listed steel cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River that carries vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the northern and the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia. The road across the bridge is named Bradfield Highway. The bridge connects Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point. The Story Bridge opened in 1940 and was tolled until 1947.
It is named after John Douglas Story, a senior and influential public servant who had advocated strongly for the bridge's construction.

Moreton Island

Moreton Island is an island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay on the coast of South East Queensland, Australia. The Coral Sea lies on the east coast of the island. Moreton Island lies 58 kilometres northeast of the Queensland capital, Brisbane. 95% of the island is contained within a national park and a popular destination for day trippers, four wheel driving, camping, recreational angling and whale watching and a 75-minute ferry ride from Brisbane. It is the third largest sand island in the world.
